Running games like The Witcher 3 or Forza Horizon 4 with all settings maxed out is the ideal dream for any gamer. However, the wallet doesn’t always align with that dream. But of course, we can’t stop playing, so here are 10 lightweight PC games that promise to be fun, even on much older computers.

10. Torchlight II

Torchlight II is one of those games that people say can run even on a toaster. Released in 2012 by Runic Games, this RPG draws heavy inspiration from Diablo and features isometric gameplay, where the camera is always elevated, giving a broad view of the map. Like Blizzard's title, Torchlight II lets you choose your character’s class, weapons, armor, pets, and more. The game can be purchased on Steam and also has a free demo version.

Torchlight II - Minimum Requirements
OS: Windows XP SP3/Vista/Windows 7
RAM: 1GB
Storage: 1.7GB (may vary)
Graphics: DirectX compatible 3D graphics (256MB)

9. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

The Binding of Isaac can be summed up as a quirky game, but it’s lightweight. It has versions for PC, mobile phones, consoles, handhelds, and whatever else gets invented with a screen. Released in 2014, this action RPG features shooter elements and randomly generated levels. You control Isaac, a baby (or child, it’s hard to tell), who escapes being sacrificed by his own mother, who believes she heard a call from God to do so (yes, it’s weird). Your goal is to find treasures that grant special powers to battle bizarre creatures while trying to survive.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - Minimum Requirements
OS: Windows XP
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 449MB
Graphics: Onboard

8. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Shovel Knight is an indie game that gained popularity for its 8-bit style and old-school NES-inspired gameplay. Released in 2014, the game lets you control a knight armed with the Shovel Blade (a shovel-shaped sword) to battle the terrifying knights of the Order of No Mercy. This 2D platformer requires you to run, jump, and defeat enemies—classic, retro gameplay that runs even on the most basic machines.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - Minimum Requirements
OS: Windows XP SP2
RAM: 2GB
Storage: 250MB
Graphics: Intel Core HD Graphics (512MB)

7. Civilization V

The Civilization series is beloved by turn-based strategy fans. This fifth edition, released in 2010, challenges players to manage resources and become the ruler of the world. 6. Minecraft

Life as a block, or many blocks in the case of Minecraft. This game, now owned by Microsoft, may seem visually basic at first, but it becomes increasingly captivating as you explore its potential. It’s not so much about the graphics, but rather the endless possibilities for character and world creation. Some people form teams just to build entire cities in the game. With patience, this title can greatly boost your creativity.

5. Left 4 Dead

Almost everyone who uses Steam owns this game, developed by Valve. If you don’t, the good news is that it’s often on sale on the platform. Released in 2008, Left 4 Dead continues to entertain players by putting four survivors of a zombie apocalypse in the worst situations as they try to escape hordes of the undead. The big draw here is playing cooperatively online to complete missions. Who hasn’t accidentally attracted a Witch at the wrong time?

RAM: 1GB
Storage: 7.5GB (minimum)

3. Borderlands

The goal is to become the ultimate Vault Hunter of Pandora.

Highly addictive, you collect cards to build powerful decks and face off against the game’s AI or, more often, other players online. It’s currently one of the esports titles in Blizzard’s lineup. It’s free to play, but you can purchase card packs to build your collection faster.

This platformer can be quite frustrating for some players due to its difficulty, but is extremely rewarding for those who learn its gameplay patterns. Featuring local cooperative play, Cuphead is a fantastic purchase, regardless of your PC’s power.
